In an attempt to boost the tourism industry which has been hit by the ongoing nuclear disaster, the Japan Tourism Agency reportedly may offer 10,000 foreigners free airfares to visit Japan in 2012with the hope that positive reports from travellers about their experiences in Japan will contribute to alleviating concerns worldwide about visiting the country.
To qualify for the free airfare, one may be required to complete an application — detailing which areas of Japan one would like to visit — and submit it via the Internet.
Those who secure free airfare to Japan may be required to write a report about their trip, which may be published on the Internet. However, they will also be required to cover other costs such as lodging accomodations.
Subject to government budgetary approval, this program is expected to start in April of 2012.
