Tips on what airlines to Purchase tickets on?

When we purchase airline tickets we are always looking for the cheapest tickets that we can find.

Is that the best way to get what flights will be best fit for your travel journey? Probably not!

There is no one solution fit all case. Each one of us and our family travel with specific requirements.

Hence airline travel experience varies from person to person and from family to family.

More than likely after a few flights you will know exactly what you are looking for, but for those few initial trips here are a few pointers

1. Call multiple agents/online sites to get a ball park on the fares for your dates of travel.

2. Try travel on weekdays rather than weekends.

3. If you are going for a short stay and do not meet the minimum stay period – buy 2 seperate tickets.

4. Try and avoid buying non-refundable tickets in advance of  a month.

5. When you call travel agents – some agents are biased on the airline choices based on personal experience perhaps. Insist on getting fares for all airlines. It might be a good idea to hear out why they like certain airlines v/s the others.

6. Try to buy a ticket with a low change fee. Some airlines sell tickets for cheap but the change penalties are outrageous.

7. Try and buy a ticket with a longer validity period, jsut in case you decide to change dates, the ticket is still usable.

8. If traveling with family, kid friendly airlines are a must. Some air hostesses are so rude that the come up to your seat and tell you to make the baby stop crying …. definitely avoid that stress. I have generally found Lufthansa and Singapore airlines to be very kid friendly. They are generous with their bassinets too.

9. If traveling alone , avoid the front row seats since they usually have bassinets and children!
