The dahi handi celebrations in Thane reached new heights this year as the Jai Jawan Govinda Mandal from Jogeshwari made a nine-level human pyramid of 43.79 feet. The mandal’s name entered the Guinness Book of World Records. It broke the record after 21 years. The first record of highest human pyramid was completed by Josep-Joan Martinez Lozano of the Colla Vella dels Xiquets at Valls in Spain who made the human pyramid of nine levels measuring 39.12 meters.

This year Sanskriti Yuva Pratishthan approached Guinness Book of World Records for their attempt, which was successfully accomplished by Jai Jawan Govinda Mandal.

Nikhil Shukla, a representative from India, Guinness Book of World Records, confirmed the record. “The previous record in Spain was 39.12 feet and this time in Thane it is 43.79 feet. We are happy to announce the record to be achieved by Jai Jawan Govinda Mandal,” Shukla said.

“It is important that the human pyramid is maintained for five seconds and the same was achieved by Jai Jawan Govinda Mandal,” added Shukla.

Apart from this, representatives from Limca Book of Records were also present and announced entry of two mandals Jai Jawan Govinda Mandal and Shiv Sai Govinda Mandal, Borivli, in the Limca Book of World Records for successfully making nine- level human pyramids.

VVR Murty, manager, marketing, Limca Book of Records, said: “This is the first time that the book has such record of human pyramid of nine levels. Record has been given to two mandals — Jai Jawan and Shri Sai— and the further process of certification among other will be done soon in this month.”
